How co-op works

Your squad covers different approaches to the Harvester, combining Pilot mobility with Titan firepower. Between waves, spend earned cash on defenses and supplies to prepare for the next assault.

About this game

Titanfall 2 combines fast-moving infantry combat with piloting giant combat mechs. Its cooperative mode, Frontier Defense, brings four players together online to protect a Harvester from five waves of AI-controlled enemies. Infantry, drones, and enemy Titans put pressure on the team's defenses as the battle progresses.

As a Pilot, you can wall-run and double-jump to move between positions. Calling in your Titan gives you heavier weapons and a set of offensive and defensive abilities. The squad needs to cover different routes, respond to threats, and support teammates when a position comes under pressure.

Between waves, you can spend the cash earned in battle on equipment such as batteries, sentry turrets, and Arc Traps. Your Titan also gains lasting upgrades through Aegis Ranks earned in Frontier Defense, helping you take on higher difficulties. Coordinating your Titan abilities and placing defenses along vulnerable routes becomes especially important as the pressure increases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Titanfall 2 have co-op, and how many players can play?

Yes. Frontier Defense is an online PvE mode for up to four players. Your squad works together against AI-controlled enemies to defend a shared objective. It was added in the free Operation Frontier Shield update.

What do you do in Frontier Defense?

Protect the Harvester through five enemy waves. Coordinate your Pilots and Titans to cover the approaches, eliminate threats, and keep the objective intact. Between waves, use the Armory to buy equipment with the cash earned during the match.

Can you play Titanfall 2's story campaign in co-op?

No. The story campaign featuring Jack Cooper and BT-7274 is single-player. Cooperative play is available in Frontier Defense, a separate mode built around defending an objective against enemy waves.

Is there progression in Frontier Defense?

Yes. Playing Frontier Defense earns Aegis Ranks for the Titan you use, unlocking upgrades that help with higher difficulties. These lasting upgrades are separate from the equipment you buy with cash between waves during a match.
