How co-op works
Each player controls a separate civilization on a team against the AI. Teammates coordinate expansion and warfare toward a shared victory, while research completed by one player provides boosts for the others.
About this game
Sid Meier's Civilization VI is a turn-based strategy game in which you develop a civilization from its earliest settlements to the Information Age. Explore a hex-based map, establish cities, and decide how to balance research, economic development, culture, and military strength.

Cities spread across the map through specialized districts and wonders, making their placement an important part of your empire's development. Leaders offer different abilities, while production choices, policies, and diplomacy let you adapt your strategy to the surrounding terrain and neighboring civilizations.
For cooperative play, you can form a team and face AI-controlled civilizations. Each participant manages their own empire while the group plans expansion and coordinates military support. Team members share their war status against other sides, so military decisions affect everyone on the team.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Civilization VI support co-op?
Yes. Players can join the same team before starting a multiplayer game and face AI-controlled civilizations. Each player controls their own civilization, and the team can win together. Competitive matches between players are also available.
How do you set up a co-op game with friends?
Create a multiplayer game, assign the human players to the same team, and place AI-controlled civilizations on opposing teams. Choose the rules and victory conditions before starting. Team membership is selected during game setup.
Do you need to finish a match in one session?
No. A match can last many hours. The host can save progress and load the multiplayer game later, allowing your group to continue across several sessions.
Can you play together on one computer?
Yes. On PC, hotseat mode lets players share one computer and take turns controlling their civilizations. Players use the same screen in succession, without a split-screen view. PC also supports Internet and local network multiplayer.
