How co-op works

Two local players tackle a dedicated co-op campaign, each controlling two totem pieces that move together. The four pieces must be stacked, switched, and aligned so matching colors cross barriers while synchronized jumps keep every totem clear of hazards.

About this game

Kalimba is a puzzle platformer that asks you to control two color-coded totems simultaneously, flipping gravity and splitting your attention across layered obstacle courses. Playing solo, you manage both columns yourself, switching sides as you dodge spikes and time jumps. The cooperative mode splits the pair between two players, so each teammate handles one totem through the same treacherous gauntlet.

The dual-control hook makes every platform a puzzle. You swap totem positions mid-leap, match colors to clear barriers, and synchronize jumps when the level demands it. Solo play tests your multitasking, while co-op transforms that into constant communication and comedic near-misses.

Kalimba supports shared-screen local co-op on Windows, plus Steam Remote Play Together for remote pairs. Sessions are fast and challenging, rewarding precise timing and good callouts between teammates who can laugh off the chaos when one side falls behind.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does co-op work if the game is about controlling two characters at once?

In co-op mode, each player controls one of the two totems instead of one person juggling both. You'll still need to coordinate jumps, swaps, and timing together, but you're only responsible for your own totem-which turns the multitasking challenge into a communication challenge.

Can we play co-op online or is it local only?

Co-op is local shared-screen by default, but you can also play remotely using Steam Remote Play Together, which lets one player host and stream the game to a friend online.

Is the co-op mode easier or harder than solo?

It trades one challenge for another. Solo requires you to multitask and control both totems yourself, while co-op demands constant communication and synchronized timing with your partner. Expect plenty of comedic failures either way.

Do both players need their own copy of the game?

No. For local shared-screen play, only one copy is needed. If you're using Steam Remote Play Together, only the host needs to own Kalimba-the other player can join for free.
