How co-op works
Two players control Ember and Rime in local co-op, with Steam Remote Play Together available. Their moving heat-and-cold boundary changes the environment according to their relative positions, so partners freeze or melt water, create air currents, and sequence elemental effects to traverse each puzzle.
About this game
Degrees of Separation is a puzzle platformer where cooperation is woven into every moment. Players control Ember and Rime, two souls divided by opposing elemental powers (heat and cold) and an invisible barrier that follows them through each scene. Progress depends on coordinating their abilities to manipulate the environment, creating paths, shifting obstacles, and unlocking new areas together.

Puzzles demand tight communication and synchronized timing. One player might freeze a waterfall while the other melts ice barriers, or they'll alternate zones to activate switches only their element can reach. The teamwork is constant, deliberate, and often requires rethinking each move as a pair rather than solo trial-and-error.
The game supports local couch co-op on the same screen, as well as Steam Remote Play Together for online sessions. Solo players can swap between both characters, but the design rewards genuine two-player coordination. Expect a methodical pace where talking through each puzzle is half the fun.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play this solo or do I need a second player?
You can play solo by swapping between Ember and Rime, but the game is designed for two players working together. The puzzles reward genuine coordination and communication, so it's much more enjoyable with a partner.
Can we play online or is it local co-op only?
You can play local couch co-op on the same screen, or play online using Steam Remote Play Together. Both players share the same view either way.
How does the cooperation work between Ember and Rime?
Ember and Rime are separated by an invisible barrier and have opposing elemental powers-heat and cold. You'll need to coordinate constantly, with one player freezing water while the other melts ice, or alternating between zones to activate element-specific switches. Every puzzle requires both characters working in sync.
Is this a fast-paced action game or more of a slow puzzle game?
It's a methodical puzzle platformer. Expect a slower, deliberate pace where you'll talk through solutions together rather than rushing through levels. The focus is on precision puzzle solving and communication, not reflexes.
