How co-op works
Summoned players fight alongside the host to clear an area and defeat its boss. Guests receive rewards, while the boss victory advances only the host's world.
About this game
Dark Souls: Remastered is an action RPG set in Lordran, a ruined kingdom of interconnected paths, fortresses, and underground passages. Exploration reveals shortcuts and new routes, while combat calls for careful positioning, stamina management, and learning when to strike, block, or dodge. This edition includes the Artorias of the Abyss expansion.

You shape your character through weapons, armour, and magic, spending souls to develop your abilities and improve equipment. Bonfires provide places to rest and recover, but resting also brings back most defeated enemies. Progress depends on learning the terrain as well as mastering individual fights.
Online co-op lets a host summon other players as phantoms to tackle a section together. Each participant controls their own character, combining different attacks and drawing enemies away from teammates. These are temporary visits with area boundaries: defeating the area's boss or losing the host ends the session. Hosting also leaves you exposed to hostile invasions, making the journey to the boss part of the shared challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many players can play Dark Souls: Remastered in co-op?
Normally, a host can summon up to two allies, making a group of three. Using the Dried Finger raises the maximum to three allies plus the host, for four cooperative players where the area allows it. The item also permits up to two simultaneous invaders. The advertised six-player multiplayer limit includes hostile players.
How do I summon a friend?
The host must be in human form, with the area's boss still alive. You can restore human form by spending Humanity at a bonfire. The guest places a sign with the White Sign Soapstone in an area that supports co-op, and the host summons them from that sign. Set the same multiplayer password to find each other's signs more easily. Guests can place their signs while human or Hollow.
Can we play the whole campaign together with shared progress?
Co-op works in separate sessions across eligible areas. Guests earn souls and rewards, but helping defeat a boss does not defeat it in their own worlds. You need to take turns hosting to advance everyone's game. Defeating the area's boss or the host dying sends the guests home; a guest who dies must also be summoned again.
Does a multiplayer password prevent invasions?
No. The password helps match cooperative players but does not block hostile invasions. Being human in an eligible area exposes the host to invaders, even before an ally joins. Playing offline prevents invasions by other players, but also removes online co-op; NPC invasions can still occur.
